Beginner introduction - what you need etc.

About The Club

We are a CTC affiliated Mountain Bike Club who actually ride up and down Mountains! (and no we don’t wear pedal pushers and cycling caps!) We're based in Lancaster (About Half Way Up On The Left Hand Side!) and have been running in our current form for about 12 years.

We continue to expand and have a selection of members, male and female, from novice to nutter. We seem to attract reprobates from all over the North West, with riders travelling from places such as Manchester in the South and Penrith in the North.

Rides

We ride out each and every Sunday and Wednesday Evening come rain or shine (we wish). We go to a couple of races during the year but can no means be classed as racing whippets, we tend to excel at the social side of the weekends.

Being 'ard northern types as we are, we are blessed with some of the most spectacular riding in the country and can manage to get to a vast selection of rides in the Lake District and Yorkshire faster than you could say "Tour of Skiddaw, Kentmere Valley, Walna Scar, Claife Heights, Pennyghent, Garburn Pass, High Street, Helvellyn, Grizedale, Whinlatter, Duddon Valley, Horton, Hawes, Norber, Swaledale and Satterthwaite" which is the sort of thing that you would say on a regular basis, obviously!

The rides are graded on the Programme as easy, moderate, difficult and severe and we ensure rides for all abilities on each and every programme. Note: There is a beginner's ride every Saturday, but they are not always listed in the programme to allow flexibility. Call on Friday evening for details.

We take numerous weekend and some week long breaks during the year and have made ourselves known in Fort William, Glentress, Dumfries & Galloway, Innerleithen, The Brecon Beacons, The Peak District, Bala, Betws-y-Coed, The Quantocks, The South Downs, The Chilterns, The Cotswolds, to name just a few places.

We aim to run a holiday abroad once per year. So far we have visited Chamonix, Morzine, Les Gets and Les Houches in the French Alps, Gran Canaria, Mayrhofen in Austria, and the Sierra Nevada in Spain, Utah in the States. Much fun they were too! Several members also took part in the 2009 Megavalanche at Alpe Du Huez in the French Alps
